According to AccuWeather, cold weather is covering the Midwest and Northeast of the US this week, threatening to break many low temperature records and causing many cities such as Detroit, New York and Boston to experience the coldest winter in 8 years.
Mr. Cohen said that this cold spell from "extreme" to "historic" is a consequence of a familiar winter factor: the polar vortex. This phenomenon is still strongly impacting the winter weather and is likely to continue for the next few weeks.
Temperatures are much lower than the average expected to continue in eastern US until early February, before showing signs of warming up.
However, according to long-term weather forecaster Paul Pastelok of AccuWeather, the polar vortex may continue to cause another strong cold air wave to the central and eastern regions of the United States around mid-February, accompanied by the risk of snowfall.
Weather Trader meteorologist Ryan Maue predicts that this extreme cold air mass may occur between November 8 and February 2.
Meanwhile, AccuWeather forecasts warm weather will cover most of the western United States in most of February.
